IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Caroline Reames
Tolbert
September 26, 1932 – December 10, 2025
Caroline Reames Tolbert, age 93, of Anderson, SC, passed away on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at Westminster Memory Care in Lexington, SC.
Born September 26, 1932, in Anderson, SC, she was the daughter of the late Carroll Frederick "Frog" Reames and Katherine Allen Reames. She was married for 49 years to James Robert Tolbert until his death in 2002. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Carroll Frederick Reames, Jr.; and a son, Robert Reames Tolbert.
Caroline was a graduate of Winthrop College. As an avid learner, she promoted education in all aspects of life. She continued to celebrate her father's legacy by hosting "Frog Boys" gatherings at the flagpole by eating hotdogs and listening to tall tales. She was a member of the Anderson Garden Club and St. John's United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School and loved to hear the choir sing. She was a longtime volunteer and supporter of the South Main Mercy Chapel. More than anything, Caroline loved her family and had special place in her heart for her grandchildren.
She is survived by her son, James C. Tolbert (Ruth); daughter, Mary Barton (Steve); grandchildren, James E. Tolbert, Katherine Alice Tolbert, Sarah K. Downs (Scott), Lauren E. Humphrey (Taylor), Steven M. Barton, Jr. (Natalie), Tyler J. Barton (Elizabeth), and Rebecca M. Holliday (Kevin); and 11 great grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at 3:00 pm at St. John's United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Stephen Love officiating. The family will receive friends in the church parlor prior to the service from 2:00-2:45 pm. A private family committal will be held at New Silver Brook Cemetery.
