Carolyn Eakin O'Dell, age 87, of 1190 Harriett Circle, passed away at AnMed Health Medical Center on Mother's Day, Sunday, May 14, 2017. Born in Abbeville, SC on October 9, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Henry Eakin and the late Marie Hicks Martin. She was also the step-daughter of the late Walter Martin, Sr. For sixty-one years, Mrs. O'Dell was the loving and devoted wife of Jackson C. O'Dell of the residence. She was a beloved teacher of the sciences having taught in public schools for thirty-five years, including McCants Junior High School in Anderson. A graduate of Abbeville High School she then graduated with a bachelor's degree from Erskine College. She was a charter member of Forest Hill Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. Carolyn was a member of the Anderson Chapter of Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary. In addition to her husband, Carolyn is survived by a daughter, Catherine O. Fields and her husband, Robert, of Anderson. In addition to her parents, Mrs. O'Dell was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Nancy Rebecca O'Dell; and a brother, Walter L. Martin, Jr. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at 2:30 p.m. at Greenwood Memorial Gardens, in Greenwood, SC, with Rev. Tom Owen officiating. The family will be at the residence and will visit with friends following the service at Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
