Carter E. Prince, age 87, passed away on February 12, 2017 at AnMed Health Medical Center. Born in Anderson, SC on May 23, 1929, he was the son of the late Melvin E. Rumsey, Sr. and the late Edna Prince Rumsey. Carter was a 1947 graduate of Boys High. He was an avid gardener and if anyone had a green thumb, it was him. He also loved traveling with his friends from their travel club. He was a faithful member of Varennes Heights Baptist Church. In his early career, he was in the hospitality business and once owned the St. Catherine Inn in Vermont. He then moved back to Anderson, and pursued a new career and was employed on the management team at Meyers-Arnold and Upton's in both Greenville and Anderson, SC. He is survived by his loving sister and brother-in-law, Martha and Joe McClellan. He also had nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews that he loved as his own children. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Rev. Hubert Rumsey and Melvin E. Rumsey, Jr. The funeral service will be held in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home on Thursday, February 16, 2017, at 12:30 p.m. with the Rev. Dr. Kirt Mitchell and Rev. Furman Martin officiating. Interment will follow at New Silver Brook Cemetery. The family will receive and greet friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 15, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. The family will be at the home of Joe and Martha McClellan, 130 Selwyn Dr., Anderson, SC 29625.
