Catherine Marie Kenney O'Brien, age 96, of Columbia, SC, formerly of Anderson, SC, passed away Monday, October 23, 2023, at Harmony Collection in Columbia.

Born October 16, 1927, in Elizabeth, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Peter J. Kenney and Catherine Marie Manhardt Kenney. She was the widow of George A. O'Brien. She was also preceded in death by a son, Patrick O'Brien; sisters, Helen Conley and Ruth Lawler; and two grandchildren, Christopher and Kelley.

Catherine was a buyer of fine China for Belk for many years. She was a devoted member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where she was a member of the Hilltoppers. She was active in the church for as long as her health allowed. Some of her hobbies included traveling, looking at pictures, cross stitch and sewing. Catherine had a heart of gold and a servant's heart and enjoyed volunteering at AnMed for many years. She loved her family dearly and will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her sons, Kevin O'Brien (Anne), Dennis O'Brien, and Kenneth O'Brien (Jenny); daughter, Kathleen O'Brien; daughter-in-law, Kimberly O'Brien; 8 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Thursday, November 9, 2023, from 10:00-11:00 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church. The funeral mass will begin at 11:00 am with Father Philip S. Gillespie officiating. Interment will be private.
