Cathy McAlister Phillips, age 58, wife of Donnie Phillips of Starr, passed away Thursday, March 14, 2013 at The Rainey Hospice House in Anderson. Born in Anderson, she was the daughter of the late W. Furman McAlister and Vivian Latham McAlister. Cathy was a graduate of T.L. Hanna High School, class of 1972, and Forrest College. For over 30 years she was employed in the Anderson County Clerk of Court's office and was elected Anderson County Clerk of Court in 2000 where she served for the last 10 years of her career. Since age 10, she was an accomplished musician and was the church pianist at Poplar Spring Baptist Church in Iva for over 20 years. She is survived by her husband, Donnie Phillips; son, Jason Phillips and his wife Betsy; daughter, Ashley Phillips Rutledge and her husband Bill, and 3 granddaughters, Lauren, Kimberly, and Regan. She is also survived by her mother, Vivian Latham McAlister and a brother, Tony McAlister and his wife Phyllis and several nieces and a nephew. Cathy was a member of Starr Baptist Church where her funeral service will be held on Sunday, March 17, 2013 at 3:00 pm. The Reverends Tony Howell, Ed Hunsinger and The Honorable Judge Cordell Maddox will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Saturday, March 16, 2013 from 6pm until 8pm.
