Cathy Bryant Shaw, 71, passed away unexpectedly on April 20, 2023 in Anderson, SC. Her family is deeply saddened by her sudden death. Cathy was born on November 12, 1951 to Alvin Lee Bryant and Betty Joyce Bryant. She was born and raised in Anderson and attended McDuffie High School. She was a life-long learner who later attended and earned degrees from Clemson University, Anderson University and Furman University. Cathy is survived by her husband James Ricky Shaw. They would have celebrated fifty years of marriage on May 11, 2023. Cathy also leaves behind her sons Dustin and Jason (Laura); and her adored grandchildren, Claire and James. Forever remembered and loved by her sister Debbie Cowan (David), her nephews, niece, and their families. Cathy is preceded in death by her parents, her sister Angela Gale Gerrard and her beloved daughter Jaime Michelle Shaw. "The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit." Psalm 34:19 Cathy leaves behind a legacy of compassion and a love of people. Cathy's superpower was building relationships and caring for others. Her kindness, compassionate spirit and understanding nature is what led her to have a long and impactful career in education. Cathy was an educator, counselor and administrator with Anderson District Five for 40 years. Cathy experienced many tragedies during her lifetime, most notably the loss of her daughter Jaime. Even in her grief, Cathy's generosity never wavered. She loved her people fiercely; her family, her students and too many friends to count. She will be missed by many. "For I consider that the suffering of this present time are as nothing compared with the glory to be revealed to us." Romans 8:18 While those who loved Cathy will miss her earthly presence, we rejoice in her reunion with her loved ones in heaven. Thanks be to God for the gift of Cathy Shaw. The family will receive friends Tuesday, April 25, 2023 from 1:00 pm to 2:45 pm, with the service in the chapel at 3:00 pm. Entombment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will be gathered at the home of Cathy's sister, Debbie Cowan. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Jaime Shaw Memorial Scholarship.
