Charles Ellis "Lightening" Aiken, age 75, passed away on Wednesday, June 8, 2016, at AnMed Health Medical Center. Born in Anderson County, SC on May 1, 1941, he was the son of the late James Monroe Aiken and the late Thelma Louise Snipes Aiken. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. Charles retired from Owens Corning Fiberglas after 36 years of service. During his retirement, he worked for Anderson Area Medical Center as a security guard, where he retired, again, after 12 years. He was member of Orrville Baptist Church. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Peggy McAllister Aiken; five children, Charles Ellis Aiken, II and his wife Cindy, Christopher Eugene Aiken and his wife Melissa, Perry Alan Aiken, Patrick Monroe Aiken, and Kimberly Looper and her husband Wayne; 14 grandchildren and16 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, MaryAnn Aiken; three brothers and one sister. The Funeral Service will be held on Monday, June 13, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. at Orrville Baptist Church with Dr. Wendell Bannister officiating. Interment will follow at New Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will be at the residence and will receive friends at the church, prior to the service on Monday from Noon until 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Orrville Baptist Church, 2620 South Main Street, Anderson, SC 29624.
