Obituary

Charles "Chuck" Everette Cashion, Jr., age 81, of 104 Juniper Drive, Pendleton, passed away on Friday, February 3, 2017 at AnMed Health Medical Center with his beloved wife by his side. Born on January 18, 1936, in Kings Mountain, NC, he was the son of the late Charles Everette Cashion and the late Minnie Conner Cashion. For over thirteen years he was the loving and devoted husband of Sharon "Sherry" Parnell Cashion of the home. Following graduation from Kings Mountain High School, Chuck served in the United States Air Force, retiring after twenty-one years of service. During his time in the military he served two tours of duty in Vietnam. Chuck also served in Japan, Newfoundland, Bergstrom Air Force Base and Myrtle Beach Air Force Base. He was a recipient of the Air Force Commendation Metal and the National Defense Service Metal. Chuck was a devoted Christian and a loving father and grandfather, and was an Eagle Scout. After his retirement from the Air Force, Mr. Cashion founded several successful businesses in Myrtle Beach, SC, including Appliance Service Center, Palmetto Heating and Air, and Cashion Mechanical Contracting and Landscaping. He was a founding member of the Beach Ball Classic Basketball Scholarship Tournament and served on the Executive Committee for thirty years. Chuck loved his fishing trips to Alaska fishing for salmon on the Kauai River and halibut in the Bering Sea. In addition to his wife, Sherry, Chuck is survived by two sons, Charles Cashion, III (Robin) of Myrtle Beach, SC, James Cashion of Myrtle Beach; four daughters, Sharon Cashion Procter (Scott) of Murrells Inlet, SC, Sandra Cashion, of Myrtle Beach, Kristin Bolt (Joe) of Anderson, and Leah Duncan (Chris) of Austin, TX; a sister, Joyce Keese of Greenville, NC; and seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Also surviving is his beloved beagle, Lexi. In addition to his parents, Mr. Cashion was preceded in death by his first wife, Genevia Cashion; and two brothers, Donald and James Cashion. A memorial service to celebrate and honor the life of Chuck Cashion will be held on Wednesday, February 8, 2017, at 4 p.m. at the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home, with Rev. Wanda White officiating. The family will be at their respective homes, and will visit with friends and family at McDougald Funeral Home on Wednesday from 2:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. Contributions in memory of Mr. Cashion may be made to the Humane Society of the US, 1255 23rd St., NW, Suite 450, Washington, DC 20037 or to the rescue organization of one's choice.
