Willie Charles Free, age 89, of Anderson, SC, passed away Wednesday, June 16, 2021, at his home. Born April 8, 1932, in Anderson, SC, he was the son of the late James Wesley "J.W." Free and Pearl Shore Free. He was also preceded in death by his siblings, Margaret Ann Davis, Dot Booth, Betty Joe Free, Harry Free and John Free. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Charles was a veteran of the United States Army having served during the Korean Conflict. He operated Free's Radiator from 1972 until his retirement in 2002. Charles loved cruising around the lake on his pontoon and enjoyed time playing with his bowling league. He was a charter member of High Praises Church of God where he formerly served as a deacon. Charles was loved by many. Those left to cherish his memory are his devoted and faithful wife of 69 years, Doris Evelyn Harris Free; son, Brad Free (Mary); daughter Terri Addis (Lamar); grandchildren, Scotty, Chris, Chan, and Jason; 10 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. The family will receive friends Friday, June 18, 2021, from 6:00-8:00 pm at The McDougald Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held Saturday, June 19, 2021, at 11:00 am in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home with Rev. Chris Sustar officiating. There will be a private family committal service at M.J. Dolly Cooper Veterans Cemetery with military honors provided by Campbell Patriots Post 184. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Kindred Hospice, 1704 E. Greenville St, Ste. 1-C, Anderson, SC 29621.
