Charles Eugene Hampton, of Anderson, age 88, passed away after prolonged illness on Sunday, October 8, 2017, at Rainey Hospice House, with his beloved family by his side. Born on April 28, 1929, in Anderson, SC, he was the son of the late John L. Hampton and the late Annie Mae Brown Hampton. Charles graduated from Boys High School in Anderson, and served his country in the United States Air Force for four years. Following his military service, he and his father John started Charles Furniture Company in 1955. The business continues to operate on South Main Street still today under the leadership of Mrs. Judy Whitten, a close personal friend of the family and longtime manager of the business. Charles, an avid car buff and expert in Mustang restoration was a past President of the Mustang Club of America and received many accolades for his show cars, a true passion for him. Charles is survived by his only son, Ronald E. Hampton(Nancy); and his granddaughter, Kristie Hampton Nimmons(Ernie). In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his wife, Naoma C. Mann, who was his high school sweetheart; and his only sister, Doris Hampton Fant. The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Tuesday, October 10, 2017, from 12:00 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. The Funeral Service will begin following visitation at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home on Tuesday October 10, 2017.
