Charles Irwin Tabor, age 89, of Anderson, SC, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at home surrounded by family.
Born January 6, 1936, in New Castle, IN, he was a son of the late Russell Woodrow Tabor and Lily Doris Hinton Tabor. He was also preceded in death by brother, William Russell Tabor.
Bud was a graduate of Santa Monica High School in California, attended the University of California Los Angeles and the United States Naval Academy. He received his bachelor's degree from the University of Nebraska. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for 21 years retiring with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He served in the Special Air Mission Division as a presidential pilot during the Nixon, Ford and Carter administrations. He was also the owner of six McDonald's restaurants in Bennettsville, SC, Dillon, SC, Anderson, SC, Williamston, SC, and Lavonia, GA, for 32 years from 1978 through 2010. Bud was a past chairman of the Anderson Area Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of Central Presbyterian Church where he held the office of Deacon and Elder.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Janet "Jan" McClain Tabor and grandson, Aiden Byce both of the home; son, Eric Charles Tabor (Dawn) of Anderson, SC; daughters, Deborah Flugum (Paul) of Simi Valley, CA, Denise Brown (Stephen) of New Braunfels, TX, Ronna Knox of California, Martha Bogard of Huntington Beach, CA, and Heather Tran (Matt) of Flagler Beach, FL; brother, Douglas Tabor; 18 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Fresenuis Dialysis Center North staff for their loving care and support during Bud's time there.
The family will receive friends on Monday, May 19, 2025, from 6:00-8:00 pm at The McDougald Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at 1:00 pm at Central Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. Michael York officiating. A private family committal service with full military honors will be held at M.J. "Dolly" Cooper Veterans Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Home for Children, 110 Calvary Home Circle, Anderson, SC 29621 or Meals on Wheels, PO Box 285, Anderson, SC 29622.
