After a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and heart disease, Charles Herman Turner, age 86, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Thursday, June 1, 2017. He passed away at Rainey Hospice House with his wife, Lulliva and oldest daughter, Denise by his side.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Lulliva Herring Turner of the home; daughters, Denise Turner Riche', of Anderson, SC and Beverly Turner Woodrum, of Hickory, NC; five granddaughters; two great-granddaughters; and a brother, Curtis Turner, of Anderson, SC.
He was the son of the late J.B. and Susie Holmes Turner. He was preceded in death by five sisters and two brothers.
Herman proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and gardener. He worked at Singer/Ryobi throughout his life where he later retired. He had an incredible head for numbers and knew scores of animals and all their habits on all seven continents, before Alzheimer's stole it all away.
With all of his girls, we always teased that Dad couldn't get a boy in the bunch, but Dad loved his girls with all of his heart! Dad will be missed by all that knew him and loved him.
The funeral service will be held at South Pointe Baptist Church on Sunday, June 4, 2017, at 3:30 p.m. with Pastor Dave Neal officiating. Entombment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service on Sunday, from 2:00 p.m. until 3:15 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Rainey Hospice House, 1835 Rogers Rd., Anderson, SC 29621, or to Alzheimer's Association, 4124 Clemson Blvd. #L, Anderson, SC 29621.
