Charles W. Whiten, Sr., age 86, of 243 Whiten Road, husband of Dorothy L. Phillips Whiten, passed away on October 23, 2009, at the Rainey Hospice House.Born November 20, 1922, in Franklin County, GA, he was a son of the late Henry Keiffer and Icie Sosby Whiten. He was a combat veteran of the United States Army serving in World War II and was later the recipient of several medals ' including two bronze stars and a Purple Heart. He was a Mason and a retired Teamster of McLean Trucking Co.Survivors are his wife, Dorothy of the home; children: Diane Burton, Brenda Jenkins, Phil Whiten, and Pam Cloonan; also surviving are children of a previous marriage: Connie Hughes, Charles W. Whiten, Jr., and Vicky Parks. Seven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren also survive.He was preceded in death by three brothers: John, Sam, and George Whiten; and four sisters: Estelle Morrison, Bonnie Fagg, Esterine Ayers, and Louise Barnett.He is also survived by his friends at the National Health Care who provided him care and comfort. The family would also like to offer a special thanks to the staff of the Rainey Hospice House in Anderson for their love and comfort during his last days.The family will receive friends Sunday, October 25, 2009, from 2:30 pm until 3:30 pm at The McDougald Funeral Home. A Graveside Service will immediately follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park at 4 pm.
