Charlie Douglas Buchanan, age 83, of 1411Honey Creek Road, Anderson, passed away on Monday, April 4, 2016, at AnMed Health Medical Center. Born in Anderson on August 31, 1932, he was the son of the late Fred Buchanan and the late Della Haynes Buchanan. For almost sixty years, he was the loving and devoted husband of Betty Jean Ashley Buchanan of the residence. Mr. Buchanan attended Anderson Boys' High School, and then proudly served his country in the US Navy. Charlie was employed at Milliken Company for several years. He subsequently retired from Michelin after many years of employment. In his spare time, Charlie enjoyed fishing, hunting, and traveling to the mountains and the beach. What he cherished most was the time he spent with his beloved family. Mr. Buchanan was of the Baptist faith. In addition to his wife, Betty Jean, he is survived by a son, Doug Buchanan of Belton and his former wife, Kathryn; a daughter, Teresa Ford and her husband, Steve, of Belton; a brother, Rev. Ray Buchanan and his wife, Wanda; five grandchildren, Kayla Ford Rogers (Adam), Tyler Ford, Trey Buchanan (Jessica), Margo Buchanan, and Ashley Buchanan Estep (Austin); three great-grandchildren, Emma Buchanan, Olivia Buchanan, and Ford Rogers; also surviving is a sister-in-law, Savannah Langford. In addition to his parents, Charlie was preceded in death by a brother, Tolvin "Buck" Buchanan. A funeral service to celebrate the life of Charlie Buchanan will be held on Thursday, April 7, 2016, at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home with Rev. Ron Fousek officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
