Charles Edward Carnes, age 80, passed away on Tuesday, April 5, 2016, at AnMed Health Medical Center. Born in Anderson, SC, he was the son of the late Clyde Charlie Carnes and the late Gertrude Duckett Carnes. He proudly served in the United States Army Reserves and was the owner and operator of ABC Pawn Shop. Charlie was an avid fisherman, and he loved taking trips to the beach. He was affectionately known as "papa" to his grandchildren and to his friends as "Good Time Charlie" and will always be remembered for his great advice. He was a wonderful father, grandfather and friend to all who knew him. Charlie attended Gethsemane Baptist Temple. He is survived by his son, Michael Edward Carnes, of Anderson; a daughter, Cindy Googe, Anderson, SC; a sister, Laverne Thomason; four grandchildren, Michael Paul Carnes, Joshua Edward Carnes, Amber Aleese Googe, and Shannah Googe Schrimp.; five great-grandchildren; and his life-long friend and special caregiver, Terri Wilson. The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, April 8, 2016, at 12:30 p.m. at The McDougald Funeral Home with Reverend Sam Duncan officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Thursday, April 7, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
