Benton, died Monday, February 5, 2007 at NHC HealthCare in Anderson, SC.Born in Anderson, SC on July 11, 1906, Mrs. Benton was a daughter of the late Robert N. Lacey and Lula Hand Lacey. She retired from the Center for Disease Control in Atlanta, after 30 years of service as Executive Assistant to the director. While a longtime resident of Decatur, GA, she was a member of the First Baptist Church in Decatur, GA and upon moving to Anderson, she attended The First Presbyterian Church.She is survived by nieces, who served as caretakers, Mildred S. Sisk of Anderson, SC, and Connie S. Elrod of Rock Hill, SC and other nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Betty Ann Benton, brothers, Robert Lacey, Jr., and Fred Lacey, sisters, Julia L. Whaley, Bertie L. Sanders, Mary L. Shepherd, Ann Landrum and Helen Allen.A Graveside service will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2007 at 1:00 pm at Westview Cemetery in Atlanta, GA officiated by the Reverend Lloyd Landrum.The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Friday, February 9, 2007 from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm.Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621 or to the charity of one's choice.
