Clarence Arthur "Moe" Bruce, Jr., age 89, passed away peacefully at his home in Anderson, SC on September 2, 2017. He was the son of the late Clarence and Eunice Bruce of Anderson.
Moe Bruce was born in Anderson, SC on September 9, 1927. He graduated from Boys High in 1944 and attended Clemson University for a short time. He enlisted in the United States Navy during World War II and was on his way to Boot Camp when the Japanese surrendered. He enjoyed telling people that they surrendered when they heard he was coming.
Upon returning home, Moe married his high school sweetheart, Barbara. He and his business partner, Bill Rankin, formed Bruce and Rankin Insurance and had a successful business. In the 1980's they merged with other agencies to form Palmetto Insurance. Moe enjoyed serving the needs of his customers until he retired in his mid-70's.
A committed Christian, Moe was a founding member of Northside Baptist Church which later became Graceview Church. He enjoyed serving in many leadership roles, including Elder. Moe was a wise man and a prayer warrior.
He loved his Lord, his wife, his family, his country, and his Clemson Tigers. He served as a shining example of a Godly man. He will be greatly missed.
Moe is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Barbara Tolly Bruce. Other survivors include children, Tolly Bruce Bryan (Kent), Art Bruce (Kathy); grandchildren, Leslie Taylor Quarles (George), Hayes Taylor, Jay Bruce (Amy), Will Bruce, Anna Bruce (Eddie), Jerry Bryan, James Bryan (Kari); great-grandchildren, Jack Quarles, Beau Quarles, Lily Kate Bruce, Elizabeth Bruce, Clara Bruce, River Bryan, and Archer Bryan; and a sister, Elizabeth Bruce Rowland (Joe).
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, William Laurens Bruce; and his sister, Louise Bruce Stave (Don).
The Funeral Service to honor and celebrate Moe's life will be held on Tuesday, September 5, 2017, at 1:00 p.m. at Graceview Church with Reverend Jeff Bartlett and Dr. Rob White officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Monday, September 4, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to The Haven of Rest Ministries, 219 West Whitner Street, Anderson, SC 29624; or to Graceview Church, 120 Centerville Road, Anderson, SC 29625.
