Obituary

Louie Clarence Dean, 69, a native of Starr, SC, and a resident of Mulhall, OK, passed away on December 2, 2016. Clarence was born February 23, 1947, in Starr, SC to the late Samuel Clarence Dean and Anita Gable Holliday. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Elaine Rainey Dean, of Mulhall, OK; son, Adam Clarence Dean (Toni), of Crescent, OK; two granddaughters, Lilee Janai Rainey Dean and Tia Anita Lynn Dean, both of Crescent, OK; two grandsons, Tee Barnes, of Edmond, OK and Cody Barnes of Crescent, OK; sister, Dyanne Dean Collins (Buddy) of Mineral Bluff, GA; step-father, Ed Holliday of Anderson, SC; and Tonya Williams and Kaley Williams of Iva, SC. Clarence was a good friend, loving husband, loving father, loving grandfather, and loving brother. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a baby son; his grandparents, Louie Samuel and Eva Inez Pruitt Dean; and Keith and Juanita Gable. Clarence was a successful cattleman owning and operating his own farm as well as managing several other cattle farms and sales. He was instrumental in promoting the Charolais breed of cattle and while living in SC, he was a member of the SC Charolais Association and the American-International Charolais Association. He was also a member of the SC Cattleman's Association and served on the board for a time. Mr. Dean was the first beef cattle operation in SC to have an on the farm bull test program, and he marketed his bulls under the Starr D Brand. He bought and sold cattle throughout the U.S. He continued his beef cattle operation after his move to Oklahoma. Later he became a successful horse breeder until his health forced his retirement. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, January 7, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Iva, SC. In lieu of flowers the Clarence Dean Memorial Fund has been set up for his granddaughters, Lilee and Tia at PO Box 160 Guthrie, OK 73044-0160.
