Clate Lee Sanders, age 97, of 125 Avondale Road, Anderson, SC, husband of the late Mary Janet Jaynes Sanders, died Wednesday, August 6, 2008 at the Rainey Hospice House.Born in Anderson, Mr. Sanders was the son of the late Edward Berry Sanders and Lizzie Etta Williams Sanders. He was an associate of Orr Mills for many years and also worked with the Lowenstein Company, Lyman, SC in the Research and Development Department. He was a member of Orrville United Methodist Church where he served as Lay Leader, Church Steward, Sunday School Teacher for the Men's Bible Class and was a member of the Church Choir. With his wife, he had also served as the Church Custodian. He was former Scout Master of Boy Scout Troop No. 80.Mr. Sanders is survived by a son, Clate Marshall Sanders and his wife, Sigrid of Athens, Georgia; a daughter, Evonne S. Parnell of Anderson; a sister, Nellie Kern of Anderson; six grandchildren, Dylan Sanders, Darby Sanders, Gail Moore, Mandy Mayfield, Neal Parnell, Jill Payton; 8 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren and special friends, Florence Barton and Joe Konicki.He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son-in-law, Leroy Parnell; seven brothers: Ralph, E. B., Claude, Pink , Roy, Roscoe, and Grady; sister, Zona King.A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 9, 2008 at Orrville United Methodist Church with Reverend Faye Stephens and Reverend Terry Beckham officiating. Interment will follow in New Silver Brook Cemetery. The Men's Bible Class of the church will serve as Honorary Escort.
