ANDERSON, SC'Mr. Claude Melton Chasteen, age 91, widower of Helen Norma Chasteen of 214 Timber Lane died Saturday, February 18, 2006 at Hospice of the Upstate.Born on November 1, 1914 in Anderson, SC, Mr. Chasteen was a son of the late Fred Burt Chasteen and the late Bell Hedden Chasteen. He retired as a supervisor from J. P. Stevens Appleton Plant and was a World War II veteran in the United States Navy in the South Pacific. He also attended McDuffie Street Church of God.Mr. Chasteen is survived by three sons, Melton Chasteen of Winchester, VA, Michael Chasteen of Winthrop, MA, and Norman Chasteen of Anderson; two brothers, Horace Chasteen of Blacksburg, VA and Fred Chasteen of Pendleton; a sister, Gladys Miller of Iva; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Chasteen is preceded in death by three sisters, Louise Richey, Viola Chasteen, and Geneva Burdette.The family is at the residence.
