CLAUDIANNA RICE June 20, 1915 - January 17, 2009ANDERSON, SCMrs. Claudianna Prevost Evans Rice, age 93 of 201 North Avenue, wife of the late Rear Admiral Joseph E. Rice, Jr., US Navy Ret'd, died Saturday, January 17, 2009 at the AnMed Health Medical Center.Born in Anderson, SC on June 20. 1915, Mrs. Rice was a daughter of the late B.O. Evans and Claudia Prevost Evans. She was a graduate of Anderson College and Furman. As an admiral's wife, she supported her husband on his many tours, which included a front row seat of the attack on Pearl Harbor. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Anderson and a longtime member of the Philetha Class.Survivors include her daughter Sara Hanvey of Anderson; her son, Colonel Joseph E. Rice, Jr., of New Orleans, LA; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by a daughter, Claudianna Rice Rochedieu and two sisters, Eunice 'Jack' Brownlee and Sara Eugenia ' Sis' Sullivan.Following a Private Committal Service for the family at Old Silver Brook Cemetery, a Memorial Service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church on Saturday, January 31, 2009 at 2:00 pm officiated by the Reverend Dr. Dennis R. Tedder.The family will be at the home of her daughter, 201 North Avenue, Anderson, SC.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Anderson, 302 W. Whitner Street, Anderson, SC 29624 or the Anderson County Museum, 202 E.
