Obituary

Cleveland Adger "Corky" Huey Corky Huey, 67, of Columbia, passed away Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at his home in Forest Acres. Born in Rock Hill, he was the son of the late Cecil Oates Huey and Sara Touchberry Huey. Corky grew up in Anderson, graduated T.L. Hanna High School class of 1965 and earned his undergraduate and graduate degrees from Clemson University in Industrial Arts. He had a distinguished 30-year career serving as both a teacher and administrator in Vocational Education with Richland School District One and the South Carolina State Department of Education. An avid historian, Corky was an active, dedicated supporter of the South Carolina State Museum, serving as the founding president of the Friends of the State Museum and subsequently as a board member. In addition, Corky served on the advisory board of the South Carolina Civil War Sesquicentennial Commission and was a devoted patron of the South Carolina Confederate Relic Room and Military Museum. Corky was passionate about art and gardening. This is most evident in the magical landscape that is his backyard. As a lifelong teacher, Corky thoughtfully helped everyone remember all that is great about South Carolina. He was interested in everything but mostly he was interested in people and is deeply loved by all those he touched.
