Columbus Leroy "C.L." Burdette, age 99, of 808 Mt. Vernon Church Road, Iva, SC, went to his Heavenly home on Friday, March 3, 2017. He died at his home with his family by his side. Born on May 7, 1917, in Iva, he was the son of the late Columbus Rice Burdette and the late Daisy Burton Burdette. He was the loving and devoted husband of the late Pauline Campbell Burdette until her death in 2010. Mr. Burdette was a graduate of Iva High School. He is a retired building contractor. Mr. Burdette was also a cattle farmer, gardener, and a brick mason. He was a faithful member of Union Baptist Church in Iva, where he served as a Deacon. Mr. Burdette also taught the Intermediate Boys Sunday School Class, and was a member of the Men's Bible Class. Survivors include four sons, Larry Burdette of Anderson, Wayne Burdette and his wife Elaine of Iva, Tracy Burdette and his wife Amanda of Starr, and James Burdette, also of Starr; a daughter, Linda B. Moran of Iva; two daughters-in-law, Gail Burdette of Hartwell, GA and Cathy B. Burdette of Anderson; a sister, Melvony Mauldin of Iva; also surviving are twenty-one grandchildren, forty-two great-grandchildren and nine great-great grandchildren. In addition to his parents and his wife, Mr. Burdette was preceded in death by sons Marvin Roy Burdette and William Hoyt Burdette, as well as several brothers and sisters. The funeral service to celebrate the life of C. L. Burdette will be held on Monday, March 6, 2017, at 3 p.m. at the Union Baptist Church in Iva, with Rev. Mike McMillion officiating. Interment will follow in the Union Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will be at the residence and will receive friends on Monday, March 6, 2017 at the church from 1 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in memory of Mr. Burdette be made to the Union Baptist Church Building Fund, 703 Barnes Station Road, Iva, SC 29655.
