CONNIE COLLEEN JONES June 12, 1926 - July 31, 2013 Connie Colleen Jones, age 87, of Anderson, passed away on Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at the Rainey Hospice House. Born in Laurens, SC, she was the daughter of the late Reverend B.B. Brown and the late Julia Moore Brown. She graduated from Slater High School as the Valedictorian receiving a full scholarship to Furman University. After her first year at Furman, she left to begin a career in Nursing at The Roper Hospital Medical School. While she was a nursing student, she partnered with a physician at the medical school who was instrumental in development of testing for the RH factor in blood clotting. In 1945 she married her husband who was a career Navy man. During WWII, she did many things on the home front, she had moved to Oak Ridge, TN and worked in the classified atomic nuclear developmental program. She continued to follow her husband's long Navy career. She raised her family and also had a career as a bookkeeper, having worked at the Sears in Virginia Beach, VA and later moving back to Anderson in 1967, working with Abney Mills and K-Mart Department Store. She is survived by her children, C. Ray Jones and his wife Sue Ann of Augusta, KS, Richard Jones and his wife Mary Ellen of Anderson, SC, Kathy Smith and her husband Steve of Boiling Springs, SC, Susan Vaughn and her husband Randall of Anderson, SC and Lisa Cromer and her husband Jack of Anderson, SC; a brother, Bobby Lee Brown and his wife Janet of Westminster, CA; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Claude O. Jones; sisters, Maxine Dewease and Margaret Brown and a son, Claude O. Jones, Jr. The Funeral Service will be held on Sunday August 4, 2013 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will be at their respective homes and will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, August 3, 2013 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
