D. Allen "Sheepdog" Hammond, 57, of Anderson, SC, passed away on Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at AnMed Health Medical Center after a two-decade battle with cancer. Born January 7, 1961 in Anderson, SC, he was a son of Mary Sisk Martin (Curtis Martin) and the late David Richard Hammond. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Amy Hammond Soto. Officer Allen Hammond served Patrick Harris Psychiatric Hospital, the City of Anderson Police Department and the Anderson County Sheriff's Office with pride and dignity along with the United States Marine Corp. Hammond was instrumental in the formation of the first bike team the city ever had and organization of community events from walks, races, and back to school events. One event became so popular it was also called Hammond Fest. He also served in the Patrol Division and Detention Division. Allen Hammond was the epitome of character and integrity. He never backed down from a challenge and never had a mean word to anyone. He could always brighten a child's day. Allen set the example for us all to follow. Police Chief Stewart is quoted as saying, "I was more than proud to have served as his Field Training Officer and all through the years until he retired from this agency as a Lieutenant." Allen always had a smile on his face and a kind word to say. He never complained and was very loved and well respected by all. In addition to his mother and step-father, he is survived by his wife, Lauri Sears Hammond; sons, Brandon Hammond (Lauren) of Starr, SC and Romario Soto of Anderson, SC; daughter, Chasity Hammond (Brandon) of Anderson, SC and sister, Angel Cleveland (Joseph) of Anderson, SC; two grandchildren, Nevaeh Hammond and Zion Hammond and expecting a third one in July: as well as several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm Saturday May 5, 2018 at Freedom Center Church, 3235 DL Drive, Anderson. The funeral service will be held in the chapel at Freedom Center Church at 3:00 pm Sunday with Pastor Phil Sears, Pastor David Blizzard and Pastor Harmon Adkins officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Anderson Cancer Association, 215 E. Calhoun Street, Anderson, SC 29621.
