Dale Stewart Sr., age 75, of Townville, SC and formerly of Pemberton, NJ, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 15th, 2016 at Hospice of the Upstate located in Anderson, SC.
Born in Rossville, GA on September, 20th, 1940, he was the son of the late Clifford Houston Stewart and Letty Juanita Melton Stewart. Dale proudly served in the United States Air Force from May 1960 to June 1964 at McGuire Air Force Base. He continued on at McGuire until his retirement 22 years later from Civil Service. He also worked a number of jobs in the Burlington County area before moving to Townville, SC.
An avid car enthusiast, Dale's most prized possession was his '57 Chevrolet Bel Air. He loved showing off his wheels at car shows across NJ and SC and took home several 1st-place trophies. An important part of the family history, the Bel Air started as the every-day family car and later played a major part in his son's wedding, carried his granddaughter's home from the hospital after their births and chauffeured his granddaughter to the prom. Beyond his love of cars and racing, he was also an enthusiastic baseball fan, and remained loyal to the Philadelphia Phillies for his entire life.
Dale was raised into Freemasonary at the Pemberton Lodge No. 199 F.&A.M. in 1978. He continued as a Master Mason with the Townville and Fairplay Masonic Lodges. As a Mason, he volunteered at the Masonic Home of NJ receiving a humanitarian award for completing over 1,000 hours of service. In addition, he was a volunteer fireman with the Goodwill Firecompany #1 and a member of the American Legion W.A. Hudgens Post 14.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Nancy Lee Stewart ne Kerner. They were married on April 6th, 1963 and recently celebrated 50 years of marriage on a trip to Hilton Head, SC surrounded by their family.
Also surviving is his son, Dale Stewart Jr. and wife Stacey of Mount Laurel, NJ; his daughter, Susan Stewart of Townville, SC; his granddaughters Amanda Stewart and husband Kyle Hause of Philadelphia, PA and Lauren Stewart of Maple Shade, NJ; his brother, Kenneth Stewart and wife, Diana, of Rossville, GA. In addition, he is survived by his best friend of 50 years, Herbert Dorsey of Pemberton, NJ.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his twin sister, Gail, of Rossville, GA.
