Dan P. Murphy September 21, 1940-April 27, 2013 Greenville, SC Dan Plunkett Murphy, age 72, husband of Judy S. Stout Murphy, passed away on Saturday, April 27, 2013 at Cascades Verdae in Greenville, SC. Dan was born in Texarkana, Texas/Arkansas. He was the son of the late Don Murphy and Dolly Plunkett Murphy and a graduate of the University of Arkansas where he played on the golf team. He was a career PGA Golf Professional like his father and twin brother. Dan worked first at Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester, NY and was then the Director of Golf at Dorado Beach Resort in Puerto Rico for 10 years. He moved to Atlanta, Georgia in 1975 to open Horseshoe Bend Golf Club as its first golf professional. Dan retired in 1999 after 20 years as the Head Professional and Director of Golf at Cherokee Town & Country Club in Atlanta. Dan was a Life Member of the PGA of America and the Georgia Section. He was very active in the Georgia section and served as President in 1994-1995. He also served a three year term on National PGA Board as a District Director. Dan won two PGA Section Championships in two different states. As a Club Professional, he was proud to have played in "his" seven Majors: one World Cup, 2 U.S. Opens, 2 PGA Championships, and 2 PGA Senior Championships. He is survived by his wife, Judy Murphy and three children, Stacy Roland of Fair Play, SC; Courtney Stolz and her husband, Whit of Charlottesville, VA; Jeremy Stout and his wife Sally, of Mobile, AL. He is also survived by his twin brother, Dick Murphy, of Atlanta, GA, older brother, Don Murphy, Jr., of Little Rock, AR and seven very special grandchildren. The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, May 3, 2013 at 11:00 am at Fair Play Presbyterian Church, 210 Fair Play Church Road, Fair Play, SC 29643. Reverend Debbie Foster will be officiating.
