Dan Rupert Yon, 86, of Anderson, SC, passed away at home, peacefully, on January 4, 2024. He was born on April 25, 1937, in Starr, SC. Dan was a loving and dedicated husband, father and grandfather and was a friend to many. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Dan is survived by his loving wife, Sally McKelvey Yon, and his two sons, William Patrick Yon (Tonya Deanhardt Yon) and Robert West Yon (Kathryn Keith Yon). He was a cherished grandfather to his grandchildren, Ellen Reece Yon, Abby Grace Yon, Sally Ray Yon, Rachael Winn Yon, and Caleb McKelvey Yon. Dan was preceded in death by his father, William Paul Yon, Sr., his mother, Corrine McGukin Yon, and his siblings, Joseph Watson Yon, William Paul Yon, Jr., Alice Yon Vaughn, Grace Yon Fletcher, and Rachael Winn Yon.

Dan entered Clemson Agricultural College in 1955 after graduating from the Lebanon Community School. After earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Engineering, Dan began a career in the textile industry that would continue until his retirement in 1997. Dan worked at Abney Mills, Monsanto, Dow Badische, Badische Corporation and BASF. He proudly served in the S.C. National Guard.

In his free time, Dan was an average but dedicated golfer and prolific gardener who could grow anything but cook none of it. In his retirement years he developed an interest in native plants and documented his hiking discoveries while hiking with numerous photographs.

Dan was an active member of Young Memorial ARP Church from 1967 until his passing where he served for many years as a deacon and elder. He found solace and strength in his faith.

A memorial service to celebrate Dan's life will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at 2:00 pm at Young Memorial ARP Church. The family will receive friends prior to the service in the church Fellowship Hall from 12:45-1:45 pm.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Young Memorial ARP Church.

The McDougald Funeral Home in Anderson, SC, is assisting the family with the funeral arrangements.
