Charles Darren Whitfield, 54, of Anderson, SC passed away on Friday, April 24, 2020. Born October 7, 1965 in Anderson, SC, Darren is the son of Bill Whitfield and Minnie Simpson Whitfield. He was a graduate of Westside High School and Tri-County Technical College majoring in Industrial Engineering. He worked as a machinist for Southeastern Machining and was of the Baptist faith. Darren was athletic and loved playing baseball, football and golf. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and rooting for his favorite football teams, the Clemson Tigers and the Carolina Panthers. He also loved growing hot peppers, making pepper jelly and believed…"the hotter the better". Darren was recently diagnosed with a progressive brain disease (PSP) and had been showing symptoms for the past few years. The disease progressed rapidly after diagnosis. In addition to his parents, Darren is survived by his sisters, Karen Whitfield and Gena Hodges (Bill) both of Anderson; nephews, Whit Bates (fiance Chasity) and Tyler Bates (Erica) both of Anderson; great-niece, Madelynn Bates; and great-nephews, Cayden, Colton and Callen Bates. A private graveside service for family will be held at a later date. The family will be at the home of Darren's parents, 703 Parkwood Dr., Anderson, SC 29625.
