IN LOVING MEMORY OF
David Pruitt
Martin, Jr.
December 9, 1955 – July 2, 2025
David Pruitt Martin, Jr., age 69, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2025, at Clemson Downs in Clemson, South Carolina. A lifelong resident of Anderson, Pruitt was born on December 9, 1955, the beloved son of the late David Pruitt Martin, Sr., and Elizabeth Thompson Martin.
A 1974 graduate of T.L. Hanna High School, Pruitt served as Senior Class President and went on to earn a bachelor's degree in Banking and Finance from the University of South Carolina in 1978. During his time at USC, he was a member of Chi Psi Fraternity, served as pledge class president, and later completed the Retail Bank Management Program at the University of Virginia.
Pruitt enjoyed a distinguished career in banking that spanned over 40 years. He began at South Carolina National Bank and was instrumental in establishing The Palmetto Bank in Anderson County, where he served as Executive Vice President for many years. He later continued his leadership as Senior Vice President at Carolina Alliance Bank.
Deeply committed to his community, Pruitt devoted his time and energy to numerous civic and professional organizations. He served on the boards of the Anderson County United Way, the Anderson YMCA (Chairman), the Anderson Area Chamber of Commerce, and the Anderson Country Club (President). He was a graduate of Leadership Anderson and chaired the Young Bankers Division of the South Carolina Bankers Association. He also served as a Commissioner for Tri-County Technical College and was a faithful member of St. John's United Methodist Church.
Pruitt's passions included golf, Carolina football, and the ongoing restoration of his cherished home, Rosehaven— a treasured Thompson family property originally purchased by his ancestor Peter Guy Thompson and passed down through generations. Recognized as a South Carolina Century Farm, Rosehaven remained in the family for over 100 years and was lovingly restored by Pruitt with great care and pride. He had a deep love for dogs and, in retirement, found joy in rescuing and caring for his companions Bennett, JoJo, and Hot Rod.
Above all, Pruitt was a devoted father to his beloved daughter, Mary Frances Martin-Orsulak of Pendleton, SC. He is survived by Mary Frances (Joshua); his brother, Guy Thompson Martin (Emma) of Anderson, SC; and his sister, Gloria Martin Mohney of North Augusta, SC.; nieces and nephews, Gini Martin-Hansen (Michael) of Alexandria, VA; Jill Mohney Bowen (Guy) of Augusta, GA; Ann Mohney Davis (Mark) of Watkinsville, GA; Rhett Mohney (Lyndsey) of Augusta, GA; Nancye Mohney Peel (Donnie) of Martinez, GA. He is also survived by his devoted cousins, Carobeth Bennett (Kevin Meath) of Advance, NC, and Rosalind Raymond (Bill) of Reston, VA, along with many other cherished family members; in addition, he leaves behind his faithful pug, Bailey. He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law Jack Mohney of North Augusta, SC.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Clemson Downs Skilled Nursing for their exceptional care, kindness, and support during Pruitt's time there. Their compassion made a lasting difference in his final years and brought comfort to those who loved him.
