SHIRLEY October 24, 1940 - July 18, 2007ANDERSON, SCMr. David Alexander Shirley, age 66, husband of Juanita 'Nita' McConnell Shirley, of 1306 White Oak Drive, died Wednesday, July 18, 2007 at the AnMed Health Medical Center in Anderson.Born in Anderson, SC on October 24, 1940, Mr. Shirley was a son of the late Robert Laylon Shirley, Sr., and Gussie Poore Shirley. He was a graduate of Boys' High School and was employed with Palmetto Precision in Anderson. He was a member for 48 years of Concord Baptist Church, where he was a former Deacon, Sunday School class teacher, training union teacher, and R.A. teacher. David was currently very proud to be the head usher of Concord Baptist Church. He was an avid softball enthusiast and known by many as 'The Legend'. He was also very active in the recreation of Concord Church.Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Juanita 'Nita' McConnell Shirley of the home; daughters: Donna Brewster and her husband, Tony; Debra S. Roland and her husband, Kevin; and Dee S. Mills and her husband, Alan, all of Anderson; five grandchildren: Garrett, Grayson and Anna Brewster; Eli Roland; and Chloe Mills.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Laylon Shirley, Jr., and a sister, Margaret 'Peggy' Shirley Erskine and nephew, Robert Laylon Shirley III.The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, July 21, 2007 at 11:00 am at Concord Baptist Church with the Reverends Randy Blank, Jack Ellenburg and Bob Marcaurelle officiating. Serving as Honorary Escort will be the ushers of Concord Baptist Church and former softball teammates. Interment will follow in New Silverbrook Cemetery in Anderson.The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Friday, July 20, 2007 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.The family will be at the residence.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Building Fund of Concord Baptist Church, 1012 Concord Road, Anderson, SC 29621.
