May 24, 1924 - January 7, 2009STARR, SCMr. David Earnest Turner, Jr., 84 of 414 McCoy Drive, Starr, SC, went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, January 7, 2009. Mr. Turner faced his final days on this earth with courage, determination, faith and his usual sweet spirit. He was an inspiration to all who knew him. Many of his years were spent 'tinkering' with everything that crossed his path and he never met a creature that he didn't try to turn into a pet. Mr. Turner loved music and was a self-taught harmonica player enjoying entertaining his family and friends.A native of Spartanburg, SC, he was the son of the late David Earnest Turner, Sr., and Louise Carter Turner. He served in the United States Army during World War II and was a retired textile employee. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Starr, SC. He previously served as a deacon for many years at Arkwright Baptist Church before moving to Starr.Surviving are his wife, Hazel Holden Turner of Starr, a son, Philip Gregg Turner of Spartanburg; a daughter, Pamela T. Benedict of Boiling Springs; two step-sons, Douglas Holden and Charles Holden of Anderson; two step-daughters, Ann Walters and Gail Hendrix of Starr; seven step-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren. Mr. Turner was predeceased by his first wife, Geraldine Taylor Turner, a sister, Frances Richter and a brother, Calvin 'Pete' Turner.A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2009 at 11:00 am at Heritage Memorial Gardens, Roebuck, SC officiated by Dr. Curtis Daniel and Rev. Gary Bill. The family will receive friends on Friday, January 9, 2009 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at The McDougald Funeral Home in Anderson.The family will be at the residence.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hope Remains Youth Ranch, P.O.
