WAKEFIELD, JR.July 7, 1916 - April 27, 2008 ANDERSON, SCDavid Conrad Wakefield, Jr., age 91 of 201 Edgebrook Drive, died on Sunday, April 27, 2008 at the Rainey Hospice House.Born in the Lebanon Community of Anderson County on July 7, 1916, Mr. Wakefield was a son of the late David Conrad Wakefield and Jennie McGee Wakefield. He attended Furman and Clemson Universities. During World War II, he was a flight instructor for the Army Air Corps and held the rank of Major. He later retired from the Air Force Reserves with the rank of Lt. Colonel, having commanded the reserve wing in Anderson. Mr. Wakefield owned David C. Wakefield Company in Anderson, a real estate and insurance company. He served as President of both the Anderson Chamber of Commerce and Kiwanis. He also served on the Anderson board of South Carolina National Bank and was active in a number of other community services including economic and industrial development.Mr. Wakefield was a member and deacon of the First Baptist Church of Anderson where he also served as chairman of the Finance Committee.Mr. Wakefield is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Brown Wakefield; one daughter, Jennie Elizabeth Wakefield of Greenville, SC; and two sons: David Conrad Wakefield, III and his wife, Sally, of Anderson, SC, and Dexter Brown Wakefield and his wife, Marcia, of Palm Beach Gardens, FL; his grandchildren are Elizabeth Brown Stehling, Katherine Wakefield Stehling, John David Wakefield, Leslie Benson Wakefield, Julia Kettering Wakefield, Thomas Conrad Wakefield, & David Finley Wakefield; his great grandchildren are Kennedy McLaurin Wakefield, Collins Elizabeth Wakefield, Finley Anderson Wakefield, and Charles William Seigler. In addition to Mr. Wakefield's parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, John Thomas Wakefield and his sister, Julia Wakefield Kennedy and a grandson, Hill Masters Seigler.PAGE TWO OBITUARY FOR: DAVID C. WAKEFIELD, JRA Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at the New Silver Brook Cemetery, conducted by the Reverend Dr. James R. Thomason.
