DEAN SMITH December 12, 1925 - April 25, 2012 ANDERSON, SC Roy Dean Smith, age 86, passed away on April 25, 2012 at Countryside Nursing Home in Easley. Born in Anderson he was the son of the late Roy Pearson Smith and the late Jessie Gertrude Dean Fredericks. Mr. Smith proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Dean retired from the Southern Railroad as a dispatcher after 43 years of service. He was a Mason, active in the Westminster Lodge. He is survived by his sons, Roy Frederick "Sparkie" Smith, and Christopher Bennett Smith and his wife Dawn; daughter, Scherri Umensetter; three grandchildren, Misty Ramsey and her husband Jason, Angel Motes and her husband Randy and Rylee Smith; five great-grandchildren, Alex and Austin Ramsey, and Evan, Elizabeth, and Amelia Motes. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his first wife, Sarah Acker Smith, his second wife, Vivian Anne Bennett Smith; and a sister, Alice Coppage. The Graveside Service to honor the life of Mr. Smith will be held on Saturday, April 28, 2012 at 11:00am at Old Silverbrook Cemetery with Reverend David Gallamore officiating. The family is at their respective homes and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Friday, April 27, 2012 from 7:00pm until 9:00pm.
