Deborah Louise Bowers Croxton, age 58, of Anderson, SC, finally received her healing from a 12 year cancer battle on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, in the comfort of her home.
Born August 23, 1966, in Anderson, SC, she was a daughter of the late James Loyd Bowers and Daisy Louise Kay Bowers. She was also preceded in death by one brother, David Bowers; and two sisters, Linda Bowers and Susan Kay.
Deborah was a long-time physical education teacher currently working at Varennes Elementary School. She proudly served her country in the Army National Guard and as an Ombudsman with the Navy. She was a go-getter who never let anything slow her down. She ran 5 half-marathons and 1 full marathon despite her health battles. Her love for running led her to start a program for children called Electric City Youth Runners. She adored her family and friends and was a devout Christian, a loving, wife, mother, grandmother, coach, soldier and friend. Debbie will always be remembered for her strength and her kind, loving heart.
She is survived by her husband, John Calvin Croxton; children, Jessica Croxton, Jennifer Jones (Brian), Jason Croxton (Lindy), and JoJo Croxton; grandchildren, Brendon, Daniel, and baby Iris on the way; brother, Don Bowers (Cindy); and nephews Lukas and Jacob Bowers.
The family will receive friends for visitation on Thursday, November 14, 2024, from 6:00-8:00 pm at The McDougald Funeral Home. The funeral service be held on Saturday, November 16, 2024, at 10:30 am at New Covenant Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. David Rountree officiating. Burial will be at M.J. Dolly Cooper Veterans Cemetery at a later date. The family would love for everyone to wear casual bright colored clothing to celebrate the bright light that was Deborah's life.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Game Changers at Rivers Edge Retreat, 1019 Garden Valley Lane, Columbia, SC 29210.
