Obituary

Debra Riddle Herbert, age 73, of Anderson, SC, passed away on Sunday, September 13, 2026.

Born in Anderson, SC, on February 14, 1953, she was the baby of three daughters of the late Charles James Riddle and Ruth Warner Riddle.

Debra attended school in Anderson District 5 and graduated from Winthrop College with a degree in Elementary Education. She began her teaching career at Estes Elementary and also taught at numerous schools in Anderson District 5. Her last position was teaching third grade at Concord Elementary until she retired in 2003. While working and raising her two sons, she obtained her Master's degree in Elementary Education at Clemson University.

Debra and Jeff met when she was 16 and he was 15. They dated all through college, married in 1977 and celebrated their 49th anniversary in June. They have been a team through thick and thin and have so loved living their dream on Broadway Lake.

She was a lifelong member of St. John's United Methodist Church and was a member of the Concord Baptist Church Women's Bible Study. She also belonged to the Garden Trail Garden Club where she served as President for two years.

Debra will always be remembered for her southern hospitality, sunny disposition and wonderful sense of humor. She also loved to entertain and organized S.A.S.S. (Sunday Afternoon Social Society) for their lake friends.

Though these last years have been difficult dealing with heart issues, she faced each new challenge with faith, courage and dignity. This was never more evident than the strength and courage she showed during this last month.

Debra found her greatest joy in her family. She is survived by her husband Jeff Herbert, her two sons, Jordan Herbert (Kylie), and Matt Herbert (Chandler), and her two adored grandchildren, Cullen and Ruthie, who called her Bo as she was known to many. She is also survived by her sisters, Brenda Oehmig and Cheryl Ratliff (Larry), and numerous nieces and nephews.

The service will be held on Friday, September 18, 2026, at 11:00 am at St. John's United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the sanctuary.
