Diane Marie Larose Munn, age 79, of Fair Play, SC, passed away Sunday, April 10, 2022 at her home.
Born December 23, 1942, in Springfield, MA, she was the daughter of the late Harvey Larose and Edna St. John Larose.
She is survived by her husband, Rocky K. Munn; son, Scott Munn of Peachtree City, GA; twin sister, Donna Dobek of Somers, CT; grandsons, Chris Munn and Colin Munn both of Peachtree City, GA; niece, Kathy Cooke (Glenn) of Enfield, CT; nephew, Bruce Dobek (Sundee) of Summerville, SC.
Diane was formerly the office manager for Northside Realty in Atlanta, GA. Here she developed many lifelong friendships and became a huge fan of the Georgia Bulldogs. Despite her best efforts, her son would go on to become a Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket spawning a (mostly) fun spirited rivalry they would share their entire lives. She was a talented saxophonist, a passion passed down from her father, and enjoyed playing with the Gwinnett County Community Band. They played every year at the Christmas tree lighting in Lawrenceville, GA.
When Diane moved to Georgia in the 1970's she found herself surrounded by fun loving Southern ladies who of course gave her a hard time about her clipped northeastern accent. However, she found over the years that those ladies became her "BFITWW"…best friends in the whole world. These 10 women have supported, grieved and celebrated with each other for over 45 years. Though the group is now down to 4 locally, 3 have passed away and 3 have relocated to Memphis, Phoenix and North Georgia their memories of all the good times are clear and sharp. The BFITWW spent many vacation weeks at the beach together, often in Cherry Grove or Kiawah Island or the Panhandle of Florida.
Diane's favorite place in the world was Lake Willoughby in northeastern Vermont. Starting as little children, each summer, Harvey and Edna brought Diane and Donna to the lake. As the family grew, this tradition continued, each generation bringing their own children. It is still our family reunion spot today. As an adult, every year, when the car would crest the hill revealing the twin peaks that surround the lake, Diane would cry. Every single time. This summer a special trip is planned to spread Diane's ashes at her beloved Lake Willoughby.
Diane shared a special bond with her identical twin sister Donna. Even when separated by distance, their hearts were never apart. They always spoke weekly, and in more recent years, daily. On more than one occasion people would confuse the two, including their children. An especially "endearing" quality of the twins was their tendency to walk sideways (like crabs) down the beach. They never seemed to notice, but the rest of the family always did.
To say Diane enjoyed her friends and family is an understatement. We will all miss her for so many reasons, but mostly for the joy and laughter she brought to every conversation.
