Dixie Sue Alewine Drinkard, age 77, of Starr, SC, passed away on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at her home.
Born November 1, 1947, in Anderson, SC, she was a daughter of the late James Marshall Alewine and Opal Jones Alewine. She was also preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Jimmie Alewine Gray and Richard Gray.
Dixie worked in accounting at Keebler, Orion Rugs, and John Green & Co. She loved her family dearly, both immediate and extended. Her friends were the same as family to her. She loved her yearly girls trips to the "Windy City" and post-tax season trips to the beach. Her life took her to many places living in Anderson, Clemson, Kinder, LA, Waco, TX, McRae, GA, Athens, GA, and finally, Starr, SC, making friends and memories along the way.
She is survived by her sons, James Micheal Gray, Jr. (Amanda) of Anderson, SC, William "Billy" Gray (Malinda) of Starr; sister, Judy Alewine Stephens (Norman) of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, Chase Gray (Brooke) of Anderson, Quinton Gray (Alissa) of Freeport, FL, Cory Gray of Starr, and Jamie Gray of Ridgewood, NY; great grandchildren, Owen and Stella Gray of Anderson, Millie Zane and Zeke Gray of Freeport, FL; nephews, Kevin Gray of Clemson, Keith Gray (Phyllis) of Anderson, John Stephens (Suzi) of Charlotte, NC, and Brentley Stephens (Terri) of Seattle, WA; caregivers and special friends, Patsy Harrison, Jessica Hollingsworth, and Stephanie Walker.
The family will receive friends on Monday, March 3, 2025, from 12:30-2:00 PM at First Baptist Church of Iva. The funeral service will begin at 2:00 PM with Rev. Jerry Gray and Pastor Mike McMinn officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Iva Building Fund, P.O. Box 475, Iva, SC 29655.
