Don Latham
Don Loftis Latham, 92, of 204 Edgebrook Drive, Anderson, passed away on Tuesday, April 8, 2014, at the Rainey Hospice House.
Born in Anderson County in 1921, he was a son of the late Donnie Martin Latham and the late Pearl Sue Loftis Latham. During World War II, he served in the United States Marine Corps and was stationed aboard the USS Ranger. After the war, he earned his bachelor's degree from Clemson University and was a proud Life Member of the Clemson Alumni Association. He had a long career in textiles, and was an avid hunter, sports fan, gardener, reader, and cook. He was a member of Concord Baptist Church, where he served as deacon, chairman of the deacons, Sunday school teacher, and chair of numerous church committees. He was a faithful member and teacher of the Don Latham Sunday School Class. In 2008, he was named Deacon Emeritus.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Maybelle McBride Latham; his son, Don Loftis Latham, Jr., of Tallahassee, FL; a brother, William Fent Latham, and his wife Mildred of Cary, NC; a sister, Vivian Caroline McAlister, of Anderson; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Nancy Lounelle Anderson; four half sisters, Lois Gable, Gertrude Miller, Mary Davis, and Margaret McGill; and two half brothers, Clifford Latham and Joe Latham.
The funeral service will be held on Friday, April 11, 2014, at 2 p.m. at Concord Baptist Church, with Dr. Don Cox and Rev. Bob Marcaurelle officiating. Members of the Don Latham Sunday School Class will serve as honorary pall bearers. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.
The family is at the residence and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Thursday, April 10, 2014, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
