OBITUARYDONALD LEWIS HAMPTONMarch 26, 1946 - December 1, 2006ANDERSONDon Hampton, widower of Nancy Brotherton Hampton, died December 1, 2006 at Hospice of the Upstate after an extended illness. Born March 26, 1946, he attended T.L. Hanna High School in Anderson, SC graduating in 1964. After working at Owens Corning Fiberglass for a short time, he attended Erskine College, graduating cum laude in 1970. He then received a Masters in Library Science from the University of Michigan in 1972. There he met his future wife, Nancy Brotherton of Flint, Michigan. After graduation, Don worked in Anderson at the Anderson Library as the Reference Librarian and Nancy worked as the Children's Librarian. Don also directed the Hart County Library and libraries in Royal Oaks, Michigan. In 1983 Don and Nancy moved to Lewiston, Idaho where they stayed 16 years. Don had always loved California and he and Nancy moved to Willows, CA in 1999 where they lived happily until Nancy died suddenly in 2005. Don remained in California until October 2006 when he moved back to Anderson to be with his family.Don was the son of Mrs. Virginia Majeski Hampton and the late Worth C. Hampton.Surviving, in addition to his mother are sister, Ellen Dickson and her Husband James; brother, James and his wife Nancy; brother-in-law and family in Michigan, Paul Brotherton; four nieces and one nephew and many friends in Willows, CA and Lewiston, ID. He was preceded in death by an infant son.A memorial service and burial will be held at a later date at Flint Memorial Park Cemetery in Flint, MI. The family will be at the home of his mother, 121 Alice Dr. Anderson, SC and they will receive friends there throughout the weekend.Memorials may be made to the Hospice House of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Rd.
