DONALD R. PORTER Donald "Don" Ray Porter, age 68, of 3005 Refuge Road, went to be with his Heavenly Father upon his death at his residence on Sunday, November 30, 2014. His loving, devoted wife was by his side. Born in Hinton, OK, on November 23, 1946, he was the son of Helen McDaniel Porter of Seneca, and the late Seymour A. Porter. Don was a graduate of D. W. Daniel High School, Class of 1965. He then served his country in the US Air Force, serving in 2 campaigns during the Viet Nam Era. He was honorably discharged from the Air Force in October, 1968. Mr. Porter was an active member of the Senior Follies for 4 years, a member of the American Legion where he has served as Commander. He was also a member of Disabled American Veteran Unit 40. Don was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting, fishing, and golfing. One of his great achievements was earning the rank of Eagle Scout. He was a member of Living Hope Baptist Church. Mr. Porter is survived by his devoted wife, Joyce Durham Porter of the residence; a son, Jason Powell of Norris, SC; his mother, Helen McDaniel Porter of Seneca; his twin sister, Deana K. Bowden of Seneca; a daughter-in-law, Andrea Powell of Liberty; mother-in-law, Edith Durham of Pendleton; a nephew, Chris Bowden of Easley, and 3 grandchildren, Jacob, Brantley and Hunter Powell. Also surviving is Don's very special devoted pet and baby boy, his Shih-Tzu, "Riggs." In addition to his father, Don was preceded in death by a son, Jeff Powell; a father-in-law, Tom Durham. The funeral service to celebrate and honor the life of Don Porter will be held on Wednesday, December 3, 2014, at 3 p.m. at the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home with Pastor Brad Hanks officiating. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens, Clemson. The family will be at the residence, and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Wednesday from 1 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. Contributions in memory of Mr. Porter may be made to Living Hope Baptist Church, 7615 Liberty Hwy., Liberty, SC 29657.
