Obituary

Attention: Obituary MRS. DORA A. BROWN GREENSBORO, NC Mrs. Dora 'Dodie' Allen Brown, 90, passed away peacefully on June 29, 2007, at Beacon Place in Greensboro, N.C.A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, July 3, 2007 at Boulevard Baptist Church, Anderson, S.C., with Dr. Johnny F. McKinney officiating.Dodie was the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. John D. Allen and grew up in Louisville, Ky. After graduating from Atherton High School there in 1935, she attended Brenau College in Gainesville, Ga., the Baptist Women's Missionary Union Training School in Louisville, and the Louisville Art Center.She married the Rev. Thomas Rhoades Brown in 1938 and was active in the choir, as a pianist, as a Sunday school teacher, as a WMU leader, and as a teacher of the Laubach literacy program. Her husband's pastorates included churches in various locations, first in Kentucky, then at Boulevard Baptist Church in Anderson, S.C., and finally at Beale Memorial Baptist Church in Tappahannock, Va. She enjoyed her family, golf, painting, travel, and nature.Dodie was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Thomas R. Brown; by a daughter, Katherine Shultz; and by a brother, John D. Allen, Jr.She is survived by seven children: son, Thomas Allen Brown and wife, Marsha Rabe, of Guilford, Conn; daughter, Dodie Brown Thomas and husband, Joey Thomas, of Anderson, S.C.; son, John Rhoades Brown and wife, Valentina Brown, of Ridgecrest, N.C.; daughter, Kathie Brown Thomas and husband, T Thomas, of Norman, Okla; daughter, Wendie Brown Sims and husband, David Sims, of Anderson, S.C.; daughter, Laurie Rice Brown and husband, Steven Ferrell, of Greensboro, N.C.; and son, Daniel Barnes Brown and wife, Cindy Carson-Brown, of Athens, Ga.; as well as by 16 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.The family will receive friends at the church following the memorial service.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Boulevard Baptist Church, 700 Boulevard, Anderson, S.C. 29621, or to the charity of your choice.A message of condolence may be sent to the family by visiting www.mcdougaldfuneralhome.comFuneral arrangements are being handled by The McDougald Funeral Home, 2211 North Main Street, Anderson S.C. 29621.
