Obituary

Doris Brown Burdette, 96, widow of Julian Kent Burdette, died on Thursday, January 23, 2025, at NHC Healthcare, Laurens.

Born in Anderson County, she was the daughter of George Dewey Brown and Maggie Hall Brown. Maggie passed away when Doris was a month old. Doris and her brother, Theron, were then raised by Maggie's sister, Lora Craft (mother) and her four children, (sister and brothers). Doris was of the Baptist faith and worked as a Sunday School teacher, with GA's, Training Union and any capacity needed. She was a graduate of Iva High School and Anderson College. She worked in a secretarial position and when the children were born, she was a devoted mother. Later she worked at the Riegel Mill Cloth Shop. She was also a member of Duke Energy Retirement Club. Doris and Kent married on February 3, 1949. Both enjoyed gardening, cooking, canning, family gatherings and were devoted to each other for 69 years of marriage. Doris especially loved her children and grandchildren, playing games and sewing doll clothes for them. She was admired and loved and will be missed by all that knew her.

Left to cherish her memory are two sons, Allen Burdette (Linda) of Greenwood and Don Burdette (Kathy) of Greenville; daughter, Carolyn Burdette of Ware Shoals; sister-in-law, Mary Smith of Piedmont; four grandchildren, Brandy Farmer (Jeff), Kathryn Irwin (Jeff), Morgan Jenny (Robert), and Jacob Burdette (Kristen); nine great- grandchildren, Drayton Farmer, Jackson Farmer, Maddie Farmer, Carson Irwin, Halden Irwin, Harper Burdette, Brooks Burdette, Emerie Burdette and Campbell Jenny, and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her sister and brothers, Theron Brown (WWII), Ruth Craft Wiles, James Craft, Herman Craft and William Craft.
