Doris Eleanor Dreibelbis Hurley, age 88, wife of the late John Bernard Hurley, of Jacksonville, FL, passed away on Wednesday, May 16, 2012.
Born in Phoenixville, PA, she was the daughter of the late Otto Vernon Dreibelbis and the late Edna Christman Dreibelbis. She graduated from Royersford High School and Catawba College in Salisbury, NC where she received a degree in Elementary Education. Doris was the wife of a Methodist minister; together they served and she taught for many years in Western North Carolina. She enjoyed life and her many interests. These included a passion for music, gardening and her family. She, along with her husband retired in 1981 to Waynesville, NC, where they began to travel extensively. Recently she was living with her daughter in Jacksonville, FL and with her son in Anderson, SC. Doris was still a member of the First United Methodist Church in Asheboro, NC and had attended the Temple Baptist Church in Anderson, SC.
Doris is survived by her children, Lucretia H. Browning and her husband Jim of Mechanicsburg, PA, Lane C. Hurley and his wife Pamela of Virginia Beach, VA, Lee N. Hurley and his wife Alyce of Charlotte, NC, and Lynn H. Winkler and her husband Greg of Jacksonville FL; a brother and sister in law, Vernon and Charlotte Dreibelbis of Charlotte, NC; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she is preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn Wright.
A family service will be held at a later date in Asheboro, NC.
