Doris Jean Hamby Smith, age 82, passed away on Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at her residence. Born in Newry, SC on May 10, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Luther Steven Hamby and the late Mattie Long Dillard. Doris grew up and lived in the Seneca area before moving to Starr after getting married. She worked at True Temper as a quality inspector, Starr Iva Middle School in the Lunch Room, and owned and operated Doris's Kitchen. She later retired from Clark-Schwebel. She was a very loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a member of Starr United Methodist Church and Newry Church of God. She is survived by her daughter, Michelle Smith of Starr; sister, Ruth Smith of Seneca; granddaughters, Brandi Ethridge (Joe) of Starr, Caroline Campbell (Sean) of Anderson, Caitlin Madden (Chase) of Anderson, and Michaela Herring of Starr; and one great-grandson, Hayden Ethridge. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Millard Gambrell Smith, Jr. The funeral service will be held at Starr United Methodist Church on Friday, February 10, 2017, at 1:00 p.m. with the Reverends Jimmy Perdue and Steven Turner officiating. Interment will follow at Bethesda Family Cemetery in Starr, SC.
