Born in Iva, she was a member of First Baptist Church of Anderson and a graduate of Anderson Girls' High School. Mrs. Tate worked for a number of places. She was secretary for Nationwide Insurance and retired from Anderson Memorial Hospital after 25 years of service. She taught 8 year olds in Sunday School at First Baptist Church for 40 years and was active in WMU and other phases of ministry. She and her late husband delivered Meals on Wheels for a few years until health problems prohibited their doing so. She was a caring, giving person to all who knew her. Surviving are one daughter, Melita Tate Leopard and her husband, Coley of Anderson; one grandson, Joel T. Leopard of Ft. Bragg, NC; one sister, Joyce B. Campbell and her husband, Tommy of Laurens, SC, and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins. She was the widow of Roy F. Tate and the daughter of the late W. Prue and Myrtle McCullough Bannister and was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Neal, Glenn S. and Dwain Bannister. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, August 18, 2005, at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home with Dr. Mark Hopkins and Dr. James R.Thomason officiating. Burial will follow in New Silverbrook Cemetery. The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 17, 2005, from 6 pm until 8 pm.
