Dorothy "Dot" Bowen, widow of Ralph E. Bowen, passed away on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at Iva Post Acute Nursing Home.

Born October 23, 1929, in Anderson, SC, she was the daughter of the late James "Doc" Buford Poore and Thelma Davis Poore. In addition to her loving parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Virginia Holmes.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Nancy Bowen Whitmire and her beloved son-in-law, Leroy; two grandsons, Chris (Zach) and Nick (Dana) Whitmire; four great grandchildren, Ashlynn (Isaiah) Sanders, Eli, Isaac and Clara Whitmire; sister, Barbara Harris of Anderson; brother, Norman Poore of Honea Path; and many loved nieces and nephews.

Dorothy worked as a sewing operator for many years at Appleton, Utica Mohawk, and Scott Shirt Plant. She retired at 75 years old while working at Westside Child Care. She was smart, tireless, and independent. She was a faithful member of South Pointe Baptist Church until her illness.

Rev. David Neal and Rev. Bill Jordan will officiate Dorothy's funeral service, on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at 2 pm at The McDougald Funeral Home Chapel. The family will greet guests from 1 pm - 2 pm at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials can be made to Agape Care of South Carolina, 187 N. Church St., Suite 21, Spartanburg, SC 29306, South Pointe Baptist Church, 1319 US 29-S, Anderson, SC 29626, or your favorite charity in honor of Dorothy Bowen.
