Obituary

Mrs. Dorothy Chambers Fowler passed away on July 14, 2024, at her home in Anderson. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Fred Fowler, Jr. and her siblings: Havern Chambers, Gordon Chambers, Louise Gibson, Grace Powell, Patsy Campbell, Clyde Chambers, Eunice Fuller, and Francis Rouda.

Mrs. Fowler was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and aunt.

She is survived by her children Stewart Fowler (Sylvia) of Anderson and Susan Matthews (Kyle) of Greenville, her grandchildren, Jonathan Fowler (Jill), Joy Fowler Smith (Mitchell), David Fowler, Emily Matthews, and Christopher Matthews, and great grandchildren Sadie, Livvy, and Rhett Fowler.

Mrs. Fowler, or 'Dot', was born in Clover, SC on December 23, 1930, to Cliff and Estelle Chambers and moved to Anderson as a child. She finished Girls High in 1947 and started working as a secretary at Abney Mills. Later, she became the personal secretary to the vice president of Milliken Excelsor Plant. After raising her two children, Dot went on to work at Walker and Fowler Insurance Agency and upon her husband's death in 1993 took over ownership of Fowler Preferred Insurance Agency and worked until the age of 90. For 25 of those years, she worked alongside her son Stewart Fowler and most recently her grandson David Fowler. She was an insurance agent for GuideOne Insurance Company from 1983 to 2018, and for Southern Mutual Church Insurance Company from 2018 to 2024. She and her husband were members of Riverside Baptist Church, The First Baptist Church of Pendleton for many years and in 1969 became founding members of River Street Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school, directed the women's missionary union, and sang in the choir. Dot will be missed deeply by her family.

The funeral service will be held Sunday, July 21, 2024, at 3:00 pm at River Street Baptist Church with Rev. Stewart Fowler and Rev. Kyle Matthews officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at River Street Baptist Church. A private committal will be held at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.
