Dorothy Lee Keown Hayes, affectionately known as "Mama Dot", age, 87 of Belton, SC passed away Thursday, August 10, 2023 at Rainey Hospice House. Born June 6, 1936 in Anderson, SC, she was a daughter of the late Myron Mitchell Keown and Eunice Perrin Keown. She was Salutatorian of Starr High School class of 1954. She was a devoted pastor's wife serving faithfully alongside her husband in ministry and business. She was a wonderful mother, making sure that her family was cared for. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, puzzles and reading, cooking and canning, watching games shows and Facebook. She was a member of Bethany World Outreach Center. She is survived by her six children, Deborah Patterson and her husband Gary of Anderson, SC, Judy Buchanan and her husband John of Anderson, SC, Theresa Knight and her husband Rickey of Honea Path, SC, Jack A. Hayes, Jr. and his wife Sandy of Belton, SC, Daniel Lee Hayes and his wife Susan of Knoxville, TN and Phillip Hayes and his wife Tamara of Anderson, SC; siblings, Albert D. Keown and his wife Barbara, Barbara Burroughs and her husband Rudolph, Sue Carnes and her husband Gary, Linda Dorn and her husband Wilbur, and Frank Keown and his wife Sandra; 19 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Rev. Jackie A. Hayes, Sr. and siblings, Mildred McBride, James Keown, Herman Keown and Talmadge Keown. The funeral service will be held on Monday, August 14, 2023 at 2:00 pm, at Bethany World Outreach Center, 490 Laurel Street, Honea Path. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12 pm- 1:30 pm at the church. Entombment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will be at their respective homes.
