Dorothy Whitaker Nix, age 82, of LaFrance, SC, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 1, 2021, at Rainey Hospice House. Born May 3, 1939, in Anderson, SC, she was the daughter of the late Robert Lee Whitaker and Lillie Mae Elgin Whitaker. She was married for 52 years to James Afton Lester Nix until his death in 2014. Dorothy was a graduate of Crescent High School, Class of 1960. She was a Godly, Christian woman who loved her family and her church. Dorothy was a faithful member of LaFrance Church of God where she was active in the senior group. She is survived by her daughters, Teresa Timmerman, Diane Simpson (John), and Joy Head (Freddy); brother, Grady Whitaker; sister, Margaret Blakely; 8 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her great granddaughter, Scarlett Green; sister, Louise Gambrell; and son-in-law, Raymond Timmerman. The family will receive friends Wednesday, August 4, 2021, from 6:00-8:00 pm at The McDougald Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held Thursday, August 5th at 10:00 am at LaFrance Church of God with Rev. Roger Allison and Rev. James Shealy officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens in Clemson.
